چکیده

Many services have recently been offered based on a peer-to-peer (P2P) communication model. The robustness of the P2P network against frequent peer failure must be considered. Replication of the content is one of the most useful techniques to increase robustness. However, the overall effectiveness of replication is heavily dependent on the topology of the logical network. As topology of networks, including the Internet and P2P, follows a Power-Law distribution pattern, we first investigate the effect of the logical network topology (especially of the Power-Law characteristics) on replication methods. Based on these observations, we propose a query forwarding method that considers the characteristics of the network topology in order to improve the performance of the P2P service. Our simulation results show that our proposed method can greatly improve the query performance by considering the characteristics of Power-Law. Our method reduces the average hop count in finding replicas by up to 60% compared with the random forwarding method.

An Optimal Overlay Topology for Routing Peer-to-Peer Searches

Unstructured peer-to-peer networks are frequently used as the overlay in various middleware toolkits for emerging applications, from content discovery to query result caching to distributed collaboration. Often it is assumed that unstructured networks will form a power-law topology; however, a power-law structure is not the best topology for an unstructured network. In this paper, we introduce ...

Peer-to-peer SIP-based Services over Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) based services, such as VoIP, Instant Messaging (IM) and Presence, depend on the Internet and SIP overlay infrastructure. Wireless ad hoc networks being devoid of any such infrastructure, require auxiliary mechanisms to support such services. In this paper, we have proposed an integration of the services with a cluster based ad hoc routing protocol and subseque...

A least resistance path to the analysis of unstructured overlay networks

Unstructured overlay networks for peer-to-peer applications combined with stochastic algorithms for interest-based clustering and resource location are attractive due to low-maintenance costs and inherent fault-tolerance properties. Moreover, there is a relatively large volume of experimental evidence that these methods are efficiency-wise a good alternative to structured methods, which require...

Efficient content-based P2P image retrieval using peer content descriptions

Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks are overlay networks that connect independent computers (also called nodes or peers). In contrast to client/server solutions, all nodes offer and request services from other peers in a P2P network. P2P networks are very attractive in that they harness the computing power of many common desktop machines and necessitate little administrative overhead. While the resulti...
